Over Any Hard Road Surface

After the demise of the old timber crossings, railways were limited to using concrete and bituminous road surfaces at level crossings. Since bituminous crossings were no longer deemed to withstand traffic loads and meet safety requirements and so concrete platforms became the alternative standard.

However, across the world there is a growing trend in the railways to replace concrete, bitumen or any hard surfaces with rubber crossing systems. We examine why

  • Highly safe than hard surface and long service life.
  • Does not change the track alignment lie any hard surface.
  • No entanglement of pad on the track, even over long period.
  • Lighter in weight, easy to handle reduces road closing/rail blocking time.
  • Easier installation and tamping simplicity.
  • Provides a smooth surface even after relative movement between rail and road level.
  • Absorbs shock loads and therefore reduces ballast settlement at the crossing.
  • Acts well in case of any distortion in the railway track.
  • Carry far higher load without damage.
  • Displaces water during rain away from the crossing area and prevent ballast wash out.
  • Three men can remove a single panel within short time. No lifting equipment required.
  • Very rugged as they can be delivered to site and just pushed off the truck and stored beside the crossing with no special care or stacking.
  • Better able to handle temperature extremes.
  • More economic compared to service life.

Special Advantages

image

No Check Rail Required

Check Rail is no longer required in this system, the design itself allows passing of the projected part of the wheel. Hence the periodical maintenance of checkrail is completely waved. Checkrail gap is maintained.

image

Absorption Of Distortion

During continuous wagon movement rail track somewhere gets depressed. MMC Crossings system, unlike bituminous road, takes such distortion of rail without damage of track.

image

Load Bearing Capacity

The heavy duty grade is capable to withstand vehicle load of min 70 tonne for tracked/chained vehicle without spikes OR 40 tonnes for wheeled vehicle. The super heavy duty is capable to withstand upto 200 tonne multi axle truck load.

image

Ease of Maintenance

Removal of full track within 30 min. Reinstatement of full track within 02 hrs Removal of individual pad at any point

image

Continuous Traffic Load

MMC crossing system is effective in port situations where continuous use by maximum weight of 38 wheelers and other trucks.

image

No More Fatal Cases

Concrete Blocks are not suitable in crossing where safety is concerned. These blocks get disintegrated by continuous traffic load and may lead to fatal accidents in the crossings.
